Settlers and a settlement guard brought a backhoe onto private Qaryut farmland. When residents objected, a settler in military uniform from an outpost near Shilo called for backup, and about 15 settlers arrived, three of them armed. Some stoned homes while the armed settlers fired live rounds. The uniformed settler shot Muhammad Mu'amar (52) in the head and his brother Fahim (48) in the pelvis. B'Tselem reports both killed. Jamil Mu'amar, Thabet Khalil and 15-year-old Walid Mu'amar were also shot and wounded. Military jeeps that arrived stopped other residents from reaching the wounded.
