On 12 October 2023 settlers, some wearing army uniforms, together with soldiers and police arrived at the Bedouin community of Wadi as-Seeq, fired into the air and gave residents an hour to leave. About 200 residents fled on foot with their flocks. Three Palestinian men were seized, bound, beaten, burned with cigarettes and sexually abused; Israeli activists were also detained. The IDF said the commander of the Desert Frontier unit involved was dismissed and the military police opened an investigation.
