On 9 October 2023 settlers described as Hilltop Youth attacked the small community of al-Qanub (also spelled al-Janoub or al-Qanoub), east of Sa'ir in the Hebron governorate. According to a church report relayed by the World Council of Churches, they set fire to four houses, took about 200 sheep and destroyed winter food worth NIS 3,000; four of the seven families began leaving and the other three planned to. Al-Quds reported that five families, more than 27 people, were forced out in early October after armed settlers stole their sheep and threatened them with death or expulsion, and were not allowed to take their belongings. In November settlers demolished five of the homes, took solar panels and set up tents nearby.
