In August 2023 the last families of al-Qabun, a Bedouin hamlet of about 89 people northeast of Ramallah where they had lived for nearly three decades, packed up and left. Residents said armed settlers from the nearby Malachei Hashalom outpost had escalated attacks and harassment over the previous year, trying to take over fields with their own sheep, tampering with the water supply and repeatedly entering the village. Some residents burned what remained of their homes rather than leave them to settlers. UN data counted it as the third Palestinian community to empty out in four months.
