On the evening of 26 February 2023, the same night as the Huwara rampage, around 40 to 50 settlers attacked the small village of Za'tara near Tappuah junction, throwing stones and damaging dozens of homes and cars. After residents pushed them back, the settlers returned escorted by soldiers. Shots were fired after 8:44pm and 37-year-old Sameh al-Aqtash was hit in the stomach and died; another man was injured. OCHA attributes the live fire to either settlers or Israeli forces; video reviewed by Middle East Eye shows army jeeps and a police car at the scene not intervening.
